According to the FBI’s 2019 crime report, there was an estimated total of 1,558,862 arrests for drug law violations out of an estimated total of 10,085,207 arrests nationwide for all offenses. Getting arrested for a drug-related crime is considered a serious offense, whether it is a possession charge or a trafficking charge. The accused individual’s set bail will depend on the severity of the crime, the drug involved, the amount of the drug involved, and more.

How Is a Drug Crime/Trafficking Bail Bond Determined?

A bail bond is first determined by the bail amount. If the crime was a more serious offense, if the suspect is a repeat offender, or if there was violence involved in the incident, then there is a good likelihood that bail will be set higher. In these instances, a person may not even be granted bail at all. The following can also help to determine whether a person’s bail bond will be high or low:

Whether trafficking was involved or not. This offense is more serious than a possession charge, because it is determined based on the weight/amount of the drug in the suspect’s possession.

If there is an intention of distribution charge, or if the defendant was accused of being a drug manufacturer. If a suspect has either of these charges, their bail will be high, or they may not be granted bail at all.

The Steps for Posting Bail

Posting a bail bond can be a relatively simple process, especially if you have help from the right professional bail bondsman. At Freedom Bail Bonding, we follow the steps below to help our clients get out of jail while awaiting trial:

Give our office a call as soon as possible. The sooner you call, the sooner we can complete the process and get your loved one out of jail!

Fill out a defendant authorization form. This form essentially says that you are allowing our bail bonds company to execute a bond for you. The form will have information for both the bail bondsman and the individual's family/friend (whoever is trying to help get the accused out of jail to await trial) to fill out.

A co-signer agreement form. Certain types of bonds require a cosigner, but not all do. A cosigner means that if the accused does not show up for trial, or if they cannot pay the bail bond, the cosigner is then held responsible.

The payment agreement contract. When a loved one signs this to get the accused out of jail, it means that your bond is approved and ready-all that's left is payment! This contract outlines who is paying, their information, how much the down payment is, when each installment will be due, etc.

A contract that authorizes credit card payments. This contains your credit card information, and signifies that you allow payments to be made from that card on a specific date.

Your loved one is released. Once the bail bond goes through, your loved one will be free and awaiting trial. We advise they use this time to speak with their lawyer, and learn more about cases like theirs! This can help them to do better in court.
