In Connecticut, sex crimes can relate to everything from indecent exposure to child pornography and rape. No matter what the charge is, all sex crime charges are taken extremely serious and typically involve the accused being put on the registered sex offender list. However, unless the judge decides that the situation was severe enough for the accused to not be allowed to post bail, the defendant can await trial at home if they pay bail.

How Is a Sex Crime Bail Bond Determined?

Sex crime bail bonds are all seen as a more serious situation. This means that bail in this type of situation will typically be high, no matter what the circumstances. However, the following factors also weigh into the decision of what a defendant’s bail will ultimately be:

Age of the defendant. Minors are charged with a lower bail, unless the judge decides that they should be charged as an adult.

Age of the victim. The charges can be more serious if the victim is a minor.

Severity of the situation. This factor can be extremely complex to look at. Each individual case is different. However, violence is one example of how a situation can be considered as “more severe”.

Past criminal record. If the accused has a past criminal record, bail will be set higher. The same goes for an individual who has committed a similar crime in the past.

Perceived likability that the defendant will not come to trial. If there is evidence that the defendant will likely skip trial, their bail will be set higher. One example of evidence is if a defendant has avoided trial for a crime in the past.

How the Bail Bond Process Works

The bail bond process is a quick, relatively simple process. This involves a professional bondsman, and some paperwork. You are only a few signatures away from getting your loved one released from jail. Below outlines the paperwork that is required before the suspect can be released:

The defendant authorization form, which is a written agreement that you are allowing a bondsman to execute the whole bond process for you.

The payment agreement contract, which states who is paying, their contact information, downpayment amount, payment schedule, etc.

The credit card payment contract, which contains the individual who is paying's credit card information.

Sometimes, a co-signer agreement form must also be signed. However, only certain types of bonds require a cosigner. This form essentially means that if the defendant does not show up in court, the cosigner is also held responsible for payment. ď»ż
